Alwoodley is proud to be an established fixture in several notable course ranking lists.
Alwoodley was most recently ranked at No 40 in Golf World’s GB&I’s Top 100 Courses 2018.
Chris Bertram, the editor of the Golf World list, said:
“Alwoodley is firmly established in Golf World’s ranking as one of the finest inland courses in Great Britain and Ireland. While the course is especially revered by connoisseurs of strategic design among the panel, it is also fondly regarded by those simply seeking a lovely place to play the game,”
Meanwhile National Club Golfer placed Alwoodley at No 15 in their England’s Top 100 Courses 2018 list. Links courses dominate the upper reaches of both lists – Sunningdale Old is the only inland course in the top 18 of the Golf World list, while five of the top 12 in NCG’s England list are seaside ‘Royals’.
It is clear that Alwoodley is regarded as one of the best heathland courses in the country.
“Our panel all rated Alwoodley very highly,” said Dan Murphy, editor of National Club Golfer’s list.
“They particularly valued its design, as the first course designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, and its consistency as a genuine championship test. “In fact, the only inland courses to receive a significantly higher ranking than Alwoodley were the two Sunningdale courses.”
Golf Monthly ranked Alwoodley at No 48 in their Top 100 Courses UK & Ireland 2017-18.
Top100golfcourses.co.uk currently rank Alwoodley at No 37 in their Britain & Ireland list and at No 14 in their England list, describing it as “one of the finest and most subtle inland courses in the British Isles”.
The only other two Yorkshire courses to feature in all of the above lists are Ganton, close to Scarborough and an hour-and-a-quarter-drive from Alwoodley, and adjacent Moortown – click here to see a special offer to play both Alwoodley and Moortown on an overnight package that includes accommodation.
Golf World magazine also named Alwoodley as No 92 in its 2011 ranking list of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World.
